Right now, science and math are two of the most in-demand majors at universities around the United States. In fact, to encourage more high school students to pursue these careers, additional grants for college were being made available to students who had good grades and were choosing a science or math major in college. The question is how to find those scientist jobs after you graduate. Below is some information about some of the most common new scientist jobs and some advice on securing one.
Geoscience is the study of the physical properties of our planet. This includes the composition and structure of the planet as well as the rocks and water found on it. Those pursuing a geoscience career are interested in studying the geologic past and present of the Earth using a number of different specialized instruments.
As of 2006, there are more than 13,000 forensic science technician positions held in law enforcement, academic institutions, and forensic institutions. The salary earned by a forensic science technician depends upon his or her level of experience. Beginning forensic scientists earn roughly $1,900 per month and those with more laboratory experience can earn up to $3,000 per month. Top scientists can earn anywhere from $35,000 to $50,000 a year. Since most forensic science positions are with a state or federal agency, most include insurance and retirement plans. The typical work week is around 40 hours, but the needs of the current case load may require overtime. The job prospects of becoming a forensic scientist are very good, with many employers seeking experienced scientists, though entry-level positions are scarce.

His father, Dr. Frank Hawking, a research scientist, wanted his son to practice medicine. Stephen attended St. Albans School, where his final grade school report predicted, ''He will go far.''
Popular culture idealizes archaeologists as adventurous, risk-taking explorers with a passion for past cultures and artifacts, a la Indiana Jones. In reality, you'd be hard-pressed to find an archaeologist fighting off Nazis with a whip, but a passion for the past is an absolute requirement for scientists who spend endless hours writing grants, surveying sites, painstakingly searching through layers of dirt, analyzing artifacts in the lab, and somehow piecing together all of their findings for publication. The reality might not make a great movie, but real archaeologists happen to find it truly exciting.
